The American Power Boat
World Championships were recently held in Key West, November 18-24,
2002. The Nick Carter
Racing Team sponsored by Sloppy Joe's Bar finished first in the Super
Vee Division. The hometown
team was lead by Steve Oropeza, driver, and Lee Murray, throttle man.
Racing the first heat Wednesday, November 20th the team raced 12 laps,
with a time of 43:49, averaging speeds of 90.57 mph. The the final
heat on Saturday, November 23rd, the team raced 17 laps, to win with a
time of 1:01:43, and averaged 84.72 mph.
Nick Carter and the Nick Carter racing team greeted fans at Sloppy
Joe's on Friday, November 22 during the APBA block party. The Nick
Carter racing boat was in front of the bar on Duval Street, and Nick
Carter signed autographs for eager fans.

CARTER RACING TEAM Key
West, FL—Sloppy Joe’s Bar has teamed up with the Nick Carter APBA
Offshore Racing Team to sponsor the balance of the 2002 Season.
“We are very excited to sponsor the Nick Carter
Racing Team. There is a good feel to the match-up of Sloppy Joe’s and
the Key West roots of Lee Murray (throttles) and Steve Oropeza
(driver), as well as to the Carter family and their ties to the Keys,”
said Sloppy Joe’s President/CEO Chris Mullins.
This season the team has competed in all five
APBA Offshore Pro Series races, taking first place at Daytona, Cape
Code, Savannah and Cleveland.
The schedule rounds out with races at: Corpus
Christi, TX, August 23-25; National Championships, Freeport Grand
Bahamas, October 18-20; and the World Championships, Key West,
November 18-24. The Nick
Carter Racing team is made up of: Nick Carter, Owner, Marathon; Steve
Oropeza, Driver, Key West; Lee Murray, Throttles, Key West; and Daryl
Simeon, Crew Chief, Key West. Crew members include: John Park; John
Schoneck; Todd Greager; Scott Greager; Karen Puccio; Anthony Puccio;
Pam Oropeza; Hunter Oropeza; Tammie Murray; and Harley Marie Murray.
Known for getting artists from all over the
country, Sloppy Joe’s entertainment varies from acoustical, to comedy,
